What is a project charter?


An approved project charter is the certificate for the project to formally begin. 

Once approved the project charter should be communicated to all key stakeholders and project teams.

The project charter typically contain the following:

  • Purpose and Scope
  • Business justification
  • Project governance structure and frequency of meetings
  • High-level schedule/milestones
  • Critical Success Factors
  • Preliminary Budget
